Event Webinar: The repeatability of reusing horticultural substrates: circular use of materials, carbon and nutrients

Growing media include any materials other than soil used as a horticultural substrate for plant rooting and cultivation in a confined volume, as part of controlled environment agriculture. These growing media are used for growing vegetables, fruits and ornamentals in a range of hydroponic systems in greenhouses based on growbags, trays, press pots and substrates for plantlets. Direct reuse of growing media based on C-rich materials is one strategy to further increase the sustainability of horticulture. Moreover, reuse of these horticultural substrates may facilitate the transition from linear to circular greenhouse cultivation. This webinar highlights the reuse of growing media under different conditions and in different cultivation systems, the feasibility of reusing growing media multiple times and the end-of-life stage of spent horticultural substrates.
